Harare: A 102-run opening stand between Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar prepared Bangladesh for a win with eight wickets over Zimbabwe in Harare on Thursday in the first of three T20 international matches.
Zimbabwe won the throw, took the punch and was thrown for 152 in 19 overs. Bangladesh reached the goal with seven balls from the goal of recording their 33rd win against exactly 100 T20 internationals.
Naim hit an unbeaten 63 of only 51 balls with six fours, while Sarkar two sixes and four fours in his 45-ball-50 hit, which was ended by fine work by wicket keeper Regis Chakabva which resulted in a run out.

Captain Mahmudullah Riyad contributed 15 before becoming another leakage victim, this time thanks to a great direct throw from Blessing Muzarabani who skipped Nurul Hasan, 16, to help Naim lead Bangladesh to victory.
« We wanted to show intent, and our credit goes to our top batterers. The bowlers came back well after the first 10 overs, » said Mahmudullah.
Since both wickets were out, no bowler from Zimbabwe registered Wicket with captain Sikandar Raza – 0-16 from two overs – the cheapest of the six.
Chakabva scored 43 of 22 balls in the Zimbabwe innings, while Dion Myers (35), Wesley Madhevere (23) and Luke Jongwe (18) all made starts without being able to continue.
The only strong partnership came from Chakabva and opener Madhevere, who bet 64 for the second wicket.
Madhevere was the first who walked caught and thrown by Shakib al Hasan in the eighth round. Chakabva left 12 balls later after being knocked out by Nurul Hasan.
Chakabva averaged practically two runs per ball, hitting two sixs and five fours in his entertaining cameo.
Madhevere was out with his 23 runs just as many balls were significantly less nimble and a single six was the highlight of his stay.
« We are looking at 170-plus. I think the middle and lower middle order didn’t fire. I’ll take responsibility, too, » said Raza looking for a duck.
Mustafizur Rahman was the choice of Bangladeshi bowlers who won the wickets of tail enders Richard Ngarava and Muzarabani for a 3:31 return.
Victory claimed the dominance of the Bangladeshi Tigers on a first tour in southern Africa since 2013.
They started by winning a one-off test and then triumphed in all three ODIs. The T20I series continues on Friday and ends on Sunday.

Zimbabwe ended up finishing 170-3, still 337 short of what would be a record-breaking target, leaving Bangladesh strongly positioned to end the win on Sunday.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Mahmudullah informed his colleagues that he no longer wanted to pursue his testing career, which leaves the team leaders in shock.
