Ebbe Skovdahl, former Aberdeen manager, sadly passed away at the age of 75 after a long illness

Danish giant Brondby – of whom Skovdahl spent three periods in charge – confirmed the news of the death of the former Dons boss this afternoon

In a brief statement on Twitter they said: « Brondby’s most successful coach of all time, Ebbe Skovdahl, died last night at the age of 75 after several years of illness

Commentator and Dons supporter Derek Rae tweeted: « Very sad to hear of the passing of former Aberdeen manager Ebbe Skovdahl

« While much more successful with Brondby, he nonetheless made a connection with Dons fans that many others have overlooked

@ Fin1991official said: « Very sad to hear this The Aberdeen manager that I associate most with my childhood

« He introduced me to most of my favorite players as a kid by promoting local youth and importing players like Zerouali and Stavrum

The Dons finished at the bottom of the league in his first siege campaign, but avoided relegation as Premier League champions Falkirk failed to meet stadium requirements at the time

Despite this, he built relationships with fans and led the team to the Scottish Cup and League Cup finals

Over the next two seasons, Aberdeen played in Europe under Skovdahl and did much better in the league

The Dane eventually left Aberdeen in the middle of the 2002-03 campaign and then returned to his homeland to take charge of BK Frem
