The speech former Minnesota Viking Jack Brewer will give Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention will look a little different than the one he prepared over the weekend.
Brewer told WCCO Radio’s Dave Lee on Wednesday morning that he had his speech ready and before he got on the airplane for Washington D.C., his eight-year-old son chimed in with thoughts of his own.
« It touched me and I completely changed my speech, » Brewer said. « I’ll tell that story and it really was something that brought everything to reality for me. He’s eight years old, but it’s amazing that his words are the one that really solidified what I need to say. »
Brewer has become a prominent supporter of President Trump’s and is a member of Black Voices for Trump.
« It’s a huge honor to come where I came from to speak to the nation and talk about the issues that are so important to our inner-cities, the kids I work with, and the prisons I teach in across the country, » he said. « For me, it’s an honor. »
Brewer’s journey has placed him in front of young voters who he thinks will show up in record amounts in November.
« I think more people are involved in the process, » Brewer said. « 2020 is a year we have never seen in our lifetime from the plague to the violence in our streets. We have a lot of things that are going on and I think it’s a reality check. Young people see how important it is to be involved in the political process from the presidential election to local politics. »
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Brewer with insider trading earlier this. The charges filed on August 6 are civil and not criminal and allege Brewer sold 100,000 shares in a penny stock because he had inside information that the company’s share price was likely to drop.
