Rock star Gary, 62, appeared via video link with wife and manager Gemma O’Neil just after 8 a.m. and chatted with hosts Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh about their 23-year marriage
Gary and Gemma spoke about their financial difficulties and how Gemma had to support the family, as Ranvir asked: « It was an amazing time for you Gemma to be the one shopping for the pop star because he couldn’t afford anything? «
Gary interrupted, « I don’t want pity! » to which Gemma said: « Well you’ve got a shag »
And someone at the house tweeted: « Did Gary Newmans wife just say she felt sorry for him at 8 am on Good Morning Britain? »
The couple have been married for 23 years, but superfan Gemma first met Gary when she was 11
They met a few times at her concerts, but the beloved couple bonded years later when Gemma’s mother passed away and Gary said it led to their first « real conversation »
She revealed: « My dad worked in the record company so I first met him when I was younger It wasn’t until my mom passed away in ’92 that we really spoke properly. «
Gemma also opened up about her cosmetic surgery nightmare on GMB and said that one of her breasts tore while she was in a trailer with Gary
She said: « We were in a trailer, I just did the stitches I turned to the kids and they parted » It looked like a shark attack and Gary had to hold it together «
