Iconic Bond Girl ‘Goldfinger’ Margaret Nolan Dies at 76

Margaret Nolan, an actress and artist known as the model painted in gold in the title sequence of the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, passed away on October 5, her son Oscar Deeks confirmed to Variety She was 76 years old

Director Edgar Wright first broke news of Nolan’s death on Twitter In a touching tribute, Wright wrote, « She was in the middle of the Venn diagram of all that was cool in the ’60s ; having appeared with The Beatles, was beyond iconic in Bond and was also part of the cast of Carry On »

Nolan was born October 29, 1943 in Somerset, England and raised in London She began her career in the arts as a glamorous model, under the name Vicky Kennedy in the early 1960s, but returned to her birth name once she started playing

She appeared in the Beatles movie A Hard Day’s Night in July 1964, and played Bond’s masseuse Dink in Goldfinger the same year. While her small acting role in Goldfinger was memorable, Nolan also appeared in the title streak and commercials for Goldfinger, painted head-to-toe gold and sporting a gold bikini.

Shirley Eaton played the Bond girl painted in gold in the film Nolan’s Goldfinger campaign led to a photoshoot with Playboy magazine as well as roles in the Gerry and the Pacemakers film Ferry Cross the Mersey and Marcel Carne’s Three Rooms in Manhattan in 1965 That same year, Nolan was cast to play Miss Jones in Carry On Cowboy, her first appearance in the Carry On franchise

Nolan took a hiatus after the mid-1980s, only returning in 2011 as Dame Margaret in Yvonne Deutschman’s Power of Three

She turned to the visual arts and her photo montages were exhibited in galleries across London In 2019, Wright chose her in a small role in her upcoming film Last Night in Soho
