    Labor Day is always observed on the first Monday in September. We’ve put together a list of what’s open and closed for Labor Day 2020, which is today (Monday, Sept. 7).

    Labor Day is federal holiday honoring the U.S. labor movement and contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, the first Monday in September was made an official federal holiday in 1894.

    The U.S. Post offices are closed on Monday. No residential or business deliveries except Holiday Premium/Priority Mail Express.

    Yes, all grocery stores are open on Labor Day and operate on regular Sunday schedules. Supermarkets typically only close for a few holidays, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving.

    Most national drug store chains are open regular hours on Labor Day, though some may keep different hours.

    Most restaurants and stores are open regular hours on Labor Day, with many offering special Labor Day sales and deals. Many malls are on different schedules due to the coronavirus pandemic; Destiny USA is open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Syracuse city trash pickup will be a day late. Other municipal and private haulers may work on a different schedule. Contact your local government or private hauler for details.

    Onondaga County’s central library and all city branches are closed. Suburban branches may vary. You can check your branch through the central library website.

    Labor Day weather should provide an opportunity to get outside but you’ll want to watch the wind
