LIST: Parish schools announce reopenings as tropical threat subsides

    All Plaquemines Parish School Board Schools will reopen tomorrow, Aug. 26, 2020. All employees and students, both virtual and brick-and-mortar, will resume their daily schedules.

    The Plaquemines Parish Learning Center, South Plaquemines Elementary School, South Plaquemines High School, Boothville-Venice Elementary School, and Phoenix High school will be closed until further notice.

    Belle Chasse Primary School, Belle Chasse Elementary School, Belle Chasse Middle School, and Belle Chasse High School will be open starting Wednesday, August 26th.

    St. Bernard Parish Public School System has been closely monitoring Hurricane Laura. After consulting with local emergency preparedness teams and parish government, a decision was made to reopen schools Wednesday, Aug. 26. The district will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day and will keep families informed of any changes on the district’s Facebook accounts and websites.

    NOLA Public Schools announced that all distance learning and other school-related activities will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 26. This announcement includes the resumption of distance learning and the reopening of school buildings that have been made accessible to school staff and teachers to utilize.  

    Schools will make individual announcements and plans for the schedule and availability of prepared meals for students.

    The District will continue to monitor Hurricane Laura and will reassess any additional needs as we continue to learn more on the potential impacts to our area.  

    NOLA-PS reminds everyone to remain vigilant and to monitor the City’s announcements for updates regarding hurricanes and tropical storms. NOLA-PS will post all storm related announcements on its social media as well. 

    Washington Parish Public Schools will reopen Tuesday. The district closed Monday, Aug. 24, due to possible weather effects of Hurricane Marco. « We will keep everyone updated on decisions we need to make for Wednesday regarding Hurricane Laura, » school officials said.

    School district will announce a decision on schools after the 4 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center.

    The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board office and all schools will remain closed Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27, due to possible inclement weather. Due to Hurricane Laura’s forecast intensity and cone of uncertainty, we want to ensure that our staff and students remain safe. We will continue to communicate updates via text messaging, social media and our website at www.stjohn.k12.la.us

    All schools and offices of St. James Public Schools will be closed Monday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020.
