Lt. Gov. Nungesser: « We’re all going to have to pitch in » to help SWLA recover from Laura

KATC spoke with Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser on Wednesday as he rides out Hurricane Laura from Plaquemines Parish, and he had a message to residents who may have decided to stick around to weather the storm.

He added that Laura will likely be « seriously deadly » for anyone still in its path, and that even if a home is elevated it could sustain major damage after a direct hit from Laura.

Nungesser mentioned that anyone who would like to volunteer after the storm to help those around them can visit volunteerlouisiana.gov. Residents can volunteer to assist at shelters, gut homes, feed others, and more immediately after the storm.

Louisiana residents helping others is something that this state does often and well, added Nungesser.

The volunteers are « Louisianians that always help their neighbor. As long as it takes to help people get their life back together, and that’s something Louisiana does very good. We’re all going to have to pitch in and help this part of our state come back. »
