Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor’s wife says she was verbally assaulted while picking up items at a grocery store near her home on Sunday

In a post on her Twitter account, Gisele Fetterman, wife of Lt Gov. John Fetterman, said she had gone « to the local grocery store and was met and verbally assaulted by this woman who told me. repeatedly said that I did not belong here »

* TRIGGER WARNING * Love I love this country but we are so deeply divided I ran to the local grocery store and was met and verbally assaulted by this woman who gave me repeated several times that I was not in my place here The confrontation continued in the parking lot where I was able to photographTwittercom / kzSoxCVJ2x

Fetterman told Tribune-Review press partner WPXI-TV that she did not notify her security service when she visited the Aldi on Route 30 in Forest Hills, because it is only a few minutes from her home in Braddock

Fetterman said she was in the store when the woman, who has not been identified, began verbally harassing her with racist slurs. Fetterman is from Brazil

She told the TV station that other customers overheard the meeting and asked if she was okay and feeling safe enough to leave the store

Fetterman said the woman followed her to her vehicle when she left and continued to verbally assault her. She was able to capture part of the incident on video « after my crying subsided « 

“I love, love, love this country but we are deeply divided,” Fetterman said on social media. “This behavior and this hate is being taught. Someone taught her that and she is taught it. probably teach others If you know her, if she is your neighbor or your relative, please teach her love instead « 

In response to the incident, US Sen Bob Casey tweeted that people should use the incident as an opportunity to teach others

« It’s up to us to teach our children about kindness, acceptance and inclusion, and to condemn hate anywhere and anytime, » Casey said

Today at the grocery store, AP’s Second Lady @giselefetterman was the victim of racial slurs and taunts As she put it: « this hate is taught » It’s up to us to teaching our children about kindness, acceptance and inclusion, and to condemn hate whenever and wherever we see it

Nearly 300 other people posted comments on Fetterman’s Twitter account expressing sympathy and anger over the incident
