Pujols surpasses A-Rod for 2nd on all-time RBI list

Los Angeles Angels slugger Albert Pujols has surpassed Alex Rodriguez for sole possession of second all time on MLB’s RBI list.

Pujols recorded the 2,087th RBI of his storied career after hitting a single off of Framber Valdez to score Mike Trout during the fifth inning of Monday’s contest against the Houston Astros.

Hank Aaron remains in first place with 2,297 RBI. While Babe Ruth technically collected 2,213 RBI – more than Pujols – the statistic didn’t become official until 1920, meaning the New York Yankees legend gets credited for only 1,987, good enough for sixth all time.

The 40-year-old Pujols is in his 20th major-league season and possesses a .299/.378/.547 career slash line with 659 homers – one home run shy of tying Willie Mays for sixth all time.
