Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams reveals thoughts of retirement after serious leg injury

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, who is set to make his 2023 debut Monday night against the New York Giants, recently opened up about his struggles following a serious leg injury last season. Adams admitted that he briefly considered retiring after tearing his left quadriceps tendon in the season opener. The injury left him in a « dark place, » but after receiving an MRI, he made the decision to come back. Adams cited the toll that multiple injuries over the past three seasons have taken on him mentally as a reason for considering retirement.

Adams’ road to recovery and return to the field

Adams’ goal was to return in Week 4 against the Giants, and he has been working towards that since being activated off the physically unable to perform list in August. He has been a full participant in practice leading up to the game and is expected to have no restrictions. Adams underwent surgery and spent over 20 weeks in a straight cast, requiring assistance for everyday tasks. Monday night’s game will mark his first time playing at MetLife Stadium since being traded and holds special significance for him.

Adams’ mindset and excitement for the season

Adams expressed his excitement to be back on the field and not take any moment for granted. He emphasized the humbling experience he went through during his recovery and how it has sharpened his mindset. Adams is eager to make an impact and return to his 2020 form, where he set the single-season record for sacks by a defensive back. He is grateful for the opportunity to play again and is looking forward to the journey ahead.
