Ricciardo’s Desire to Return to Red Bull Seat
Sergio Perez has addressed rumors of Daniel Ricciardo wanting his seat in 2025, stating that it is simply how the business of Formula 1 is run. Ricciardo has openly expressed his desire to reclaim the senior Red Bull seat he left in 2018, and Perez holds no ill will towards him. Despite having a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2024, Perez understands Ricciardo’s ambition to partner with Max Verstappen in the future.
Perez himself faced scrutiny after a strong start to the season followed by a drop in performance. Meanwhile, Verstappen’s exceptional form propelled him to the top of the Drivers’ standings. As Ricciardo serves as Red Bull’s reserve driver, Perez was temporarily placed at AlphaTauri to replace Nyck de Vries. Impressively, Perez showcased his skills on the track.
Perez Remains Relaxed About Future Partnership
When asked about Ricciardo potentially circling his seat for the 2025 season, Perez remained calm and emphasized his friendship with Ricciardo. He acknowledged that in Formula 1, there are only a few seats that are truly enticing. Perez had faced uncertainty at the end of 2020 when Sebastian Vettel was announced as his replacement at Aston Martin. However, Red Bull chose to retain Perez alongside Verstappen instead of Alex Albon.
Perez understands the rapid changes in the sport and the importance of giving his all to secure his place on the Formula 1 grid. He believes that when the time comes for him to leave the sport, he can do so with peace of mind, knowing that he gave his maximum effort.
