Six Nations residents are gearing up to watch hometown hockey star Brandon Montour play in the Stanley Cup final, which starts on Saturday. Montour and his Florida Panthers teammates will take on the Los Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the best-of-seven championship series. To celebrate, Six Nations will hold Stanley Cup viewing parties throughout the final. The Game 1 party is being held at The Gathering Place, with the doors opening at 7:15 p.m. There will be food and other activities at the viewing party, and residents will also be tying red bows and placing mini-jersey decals around the community during the finals.

Montour played for the junior B Brantford Golden Eagles and Caledonia Corvairs before joining the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League. He played at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was the 55th overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014. Montour played for the Ducks from 2016 to 2019 before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres. He joined the Florida Panthers in 2021. Six Nations Elected Chief Mark B. Hill said the viewing parties are wonderful opportunities for the community to gather and support Montour as he pursues the most prestigious prize in all of hockey.

Viewing parties for Games 2 and 3 of the Stanley Cup final will be held at the Six Nations Community Hall. The Game 4 party will be held at The Gathering Place. If necessary, the venue for the viewing parties for Games 5, 6 and 7, will be held at the community hall. Hydro One is planning a power outage to complete repairs at its transmission station in Caledonia on Saturday starting at 10 p.m. Plans call for power to be maintained at The Gathering Place through a generator if needed during the planned outage.
