Arsenal was linked with a move for Julian Brandt in the January transfer window, but Borussia Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc says there was no contact.
After a creative midfielder missed Lyons Houssem Aouar this summer, he is at the top of Mikel Arteta’s transfer wish list.
Real Madrid’s Isco is on a loan target for the Gunners but it remains to be seen if they have the financial opportunity to get signatures in January.
Brandt has been touted as an option, but if he is a target it seems that no step has been taken yet.
« I’ve read that too, I can’t say more about it, » Zorc told Bild. “Nobody has contacted us, there is nothing on the table – and not even in the fax machine. ”
The 24-year-old would likely ask for a sizable transfer fee. Brandt has not yet missed a game for Dortmund this season and has a contract until 2024.
Arsenal’s winter transfer window has already started. Left-back Sead Kolasinac is on loan and is returning to Schalke to help fight relegation from the Bundesliga.
Some reports have suggested that Arsenal need to pull players out of the game in order to add new faces. Mesut Ozil, notable for his lack of creativity, has rarely made the headlines, but Arteta says he won’t try to oust him.
« We’ll see what happens in the transfer window and we’ll evaluate that in the end, » said Arteta of Ozil’s possible return to the squad.
« You must respect the player’s contract. What you can do is try to be open with them and let them know your intentions, the role they have on the team, and why.
« In the end, you are entitled to make the decision in your life because you have a contract here.
« Some want to move because they’re not playing and others want to stay. In the end, we can’t make up our minds. ”
Arteta will be back on the field on Saturday as Arsenal travel to relegation defenders West Brom in the Premier League.
