MIAMI (AP) – On Sunday the Milwaukee Bucks had their worst 3-point performance in a little over a year.

The Bucks posted a record 29 3-pointers in their 144-97 game against reigning Eastern Conference champion, Miami Heat, Tuesday night. They shot 29 for 51 from the deep two nights after losing 7 for 38 in a loss to New York.

Some nights the basketball gods are a bit with you, said Bucks trainer Mike Budenholzer. «  It’s probably one of those nights.  »

Milwaukee used 13 players and 12 made at least a 3-pointer – the only exception was twice reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Khris Middleton had four 3s and scored 25 points, Jrue Holiday made six 3s on his 24-point night, and Donte DiVincenzo was 5-on-6 from deep and finished on 17 points.

Antetokounmpo only had nine points. But his brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, who was 0 to 11 out of the 3-point range on the night of his career, stepped up and made one from the deep.

« I knew we were shooting well, » said Bucks center Brook Lopez, who made three 3s. «  I didn’t know we were close to that.  »

The record breaker was made by Sam Merrill, who finished 28th with 6:07. 3-pointer, giving the Bucks a 131-86 lead.

The previous record for 3 in a game was 27, set by the Houston Rockets against the Phoenix Suns on Jan.. April 2019. Milwaukee’s all-time high was 22 against Sacramento on November. 4, 2018. The most allowed game in a Miami game to date was on March 24th. February. 5 against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Milwaukee took the lead 10-0 in 78 seconds, 21-3 in about four minutes, and the tone was set in the first meeting between the teams since last season’s playoffs, when the heat broke the five games Bucks eliminated.

« It looked like they had been thinking about this game for 80 days, » said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Tyler Herro scored 23 points for the heat. Miami’s Jimmy Butler missed the game with a sprained right ankle; It is not known if he will play on Wednesday when the Heat and Bucks meet again.

The Heat had approximately 100 fans in the game, all family members and friends of players and staff. « I think it’s a boom for the family just to have some normalcy and a real opportunity to support their loved ones, » said Spoelstra, whose wife Nikki was present.

Giannis Antetokounmpos’s streak of 108 consecutive regular season games – and a total of 132 – ended with at least 10 points. It was the first time since February. 13, 2017 that he was playing scored less than 10 points and won the dollars anyway.
