A train plowed into an abandoned car in southeast Perth and caused commuter chaos at peak times.
The passenger train – with no passengers on board at the time – hit a jeep parked on the railway line near an intersection at the junction of Albany Highway and The Crescent in Maddington.
The Albany Highway is closed from River Avenue to The Crescent as police and emergency services investigate the crash and evacuate the route. It is expected to be blocked for an extended period of time.
Users of public transport can also expect delays on trains between Cannington and Armadale to be canceled. Transperth runs replacement buses.
Transperth says trains on the Armadale and Thornlie lines between Armadale and Cannington and Thornlie have been canceled due to the incident and train replacements are being used.
Adding to the traffic problems this morning is a truck rollover at the intersection of the Roe and Tonkin motorways.
Access to the Tonkin Highway north from the Roe Highway is closed and motorists are advised to find an alternate route.
