Weltnachrichten – AU – Ex-Champion Dillashaw wants « title fight immediately »

. .

TJ Dillashaw explains to Brett Okamoto what he thinks of the UFC’s current bantamweight division and explains why he deserves an immediate title on his return from suspension to PEDs. (2:54)

Former UFC Champion TJ Dillashaw gave up his 135-pound title in 2019 due to a two-year doping ban, not a loss. Now that the suspension is almost over, he believes he should immediately try to regain the belt that he never really lost in the competition.

Dillashaw (16-4) has been suspended for two years by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO) prior to a flyweight title bout against Henry Cejudo in January 2019. The suspension should be on Jan. end up. 18, 2021.

In Dillashaw’s absence, Cejudo claimed the vacant bantamweight title, defended it once and retired. With that the title was free again until Petr Yan defeated Jose Aldo and won the belt in July. In Dillashaw’s eyes it all adds up to a division with no real champion.

« I want this title shot right now, » Dillashaw told ESPN. « You have a man in Petr Yan who beat someone for the belt who is 2-0 in the division. Jose Aldo has two losses [at £ 135]; Do you beat him for the title and call yourself a champion? This belt changed hands with every fight. Nobody dominated there. This is my belt and I want to go back to a title shot. «

Yan (15-1) was scheduled to defend the belt against Aljamain Sterling (19-3) at UFC 256 this month, but the fight has been postponed to an unknown date in 2021. Although Dillashaw on Jan.. January is free to end the suspension. At 18 he said he would like to enjoy the vacation with his young son and fight sometime in March, preferably against the winner between Yan and Sterling.

Dillashaw, 34, said he was open to the fight against high-ranking competitor Cory Sandhagen (13-2), who has expressed an interest in fighting him. Dillashaw said he was less interested in a possible fight against former teammate Urijah Faber. Dillashaw and Faber had an argument in 2015 and there has been a possibility of a fight between them ever since.

« That’s a little joke, » Dillashaw said of Faber. « I wouldn’t mind beating his ass, but he’s not even in the top 15. I want to fight for a title and the guy isn’t even in the top 15. I think if [UFC] it was worth it . . . I’d love to honk his ass; it would feel good, but it’s kind of a joke.

« [Sandhagen] wants to fight me because he knows that this is his way to the title. The title shot is mine and he wants to fight me because he wants to fight for the title. If I have to fight someone else, it’s better to be in the top 5. «

Dillashaw said he didn’t expect a warm welcome from fans after admitting that he knowingly took the prohibited substance in 2019. D.. .

Nonetheless, Dillashaw promised to regain his title, which he held from 2014 to 2016 and 2017 to 2019.

« I’m going to be a three-time bantamweight champion, » said Dillashaw. « That’s a guarantee, and it will happen sooner than people think. «
