Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has suggested that club legend Patrick Vieira would be the ideal candidate to replace the struggling Mikel Arteta.
Arteta replaced Unai Emery last year but has had a bad start to this season despite leading the club to FA Cup victory in just its first few months.
For the inexperienced Spaniard whose only coaching experience was as part of the Pep Guardiola staff in Manchester City, things quickly went bad.
It has proven to be a tough move for Arteta and it could soon be time for Arsenal to change things as they seem drawn into a real relegation battle after seven Premier League games without a win.
Gallas, however, has suggested Arsenal adopt a different surprise name as he recommends Vieira as an ideal pick.
The Frenchman recently lost his job at Ligue 1 in Nice. Perhaps it doesn’t seem ideal either, but Gallas seems confident that it will be an upgrade.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes, Gallas said, “When they selected Mikel Arteta to replace Unai Emery, I thought Patrick Vieira was the name they should have chosen.
« I don’t know how close he was or if he was in the race at all, but I was surprised they didn’t even mention his name. Patrick has more experience than Mikel because he worked in America and spent time in Nice.
“When the Arsenal board decided to select a new manager, I thought Patrick would get the call. He was the captain of Arsenal and knows the club very well. Patrick was the right person back then.
« If you have to fire Mikel Arteta you have to choose Patrick Vieira as a replacement and I’m sure all the fans would love it. « . ”
