Phil Foden can be « one of the best players in the world if he wants to, » said Kevin, the club-mate of Manchester City De Bruyne midfielder.
At 20, a highly rated product in the Etihad Stadium Academy system is busy making a name for itself.
Great things have been expected of him for some time, with Foden’s potential being recognized long before he inspired England to U17 World Cup glory in 2017.
He has since been Senior International while recording 84 appearances for City.
After the departure of World Cup winner David Silva in the summer, Foden has become a fixture in slot machines at club level.
The hottest prospects are expected to fill up some great Spanish shoes and become a superstar in Manchester.
De Bruyne believes that Foden can achieve whatever he sets out to do. The Belgian superstar advises his young colleague to be at the top of the game.
« He’s been with us for three or four years. He’s still a young man, but he plays regularly.
« He’s playing really well, he’s evolving, so he has to keep doing that. If he goes the right way in a few years he will become one of the best players in the world if he wants. ”
Foden wasn’t out of place on City’s star-studded roster, but he also offers a much-needed touch of local pride to a team that has invested heavily in proven artists from around the world.
Former blues captain Paul Power thinks this is very positive and explains on the club’s official website: “I remember playing in the league cup semi-finals in 1976 during my career in the city when we went to Middlesbrough and I think 10 of the 11 starting players that night were all local Manchester boys. The only one outside of the Manchester area was Asa Hartford.
