Kai Havertz came to Chelsea in a shine of glory as he was the record signing of the blues and was high on his list to play for Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the youngster hasn’t settled in West London and there have been question marks as to whether his style of play is suitable for the rigors of the Premier League.
Former Chelsea and England coach Glenn Hoddle believes Havertz will have to get tougher if he is to be successful in the top English league.
« At the moment, Havertz is not showing anywhere near the player he was showing in Germany, » he told the Evening Standard about a question asked of the player and fellow countryman Timo Werner.
« He plays a little deeper at Chelsea and I think if he gets a little more in the box we’ll see the best of him.
« He’s a good player and more is to come, but he looks like a character who will take some time to settle down. ».
“It’s almost like he just wants to be a nice player. For me he has to be a little more assertive. Get in the box, hurt yourself a little in the sense of its runnability to get in the box. And I think he’ll score goals.
« He’s having a hard time adapting, but he’ll get there in the end. He’s still a young man and he’s good enough to adjust to the pace and ferocity of the Premier League. ”
