Inter-CEO Beppe Marotta discussed the Nerazzurri’s financial situation, the players’ salaries and more in an interview in today’s newspaper of the Milanese newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We have agreed to postpone the payment of player salaries for July and August by a few months. To help us in this critical phase of football. And not just for football. ”
He commented on how he saw this solution as an option going forward.
« Sure. We talk about it with the other clubs and top management in football these days. The idea is to make payments to footballers more flexible. Of course, I’m only referring to Serie A.. . ”
« In Series B and C the salaries are much lower and it is right that payments are made regularly. ”
“Without the audience in the stadiums and the sales that go with it, clubs need money from TV stations and sponsors over a long period of time.
“It will be good to give clubs the freedom to agree more flexibility with their members on payments. ”
He did not speak out against the use of monthly payments, just highlighted how they could be made easier for the teams.
« It would be enough to set a minimum monthly base and defer the higher fees during the season. That way, the most expensive wages would put less of a burden on the clubs’ innumerable deadlines.
« After all, this already works in other countries. Why don’t we do that too? «
« Unfortunately, yes. Serie A clubs now spend 60% of their resources on wages. It’s a percentage that can lead to bankruptcy. It is necessary to intervene to restore the solidity of all. ”
