Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich could return to the Bundesliga showdown at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday after he recovered from a knee injury faster than expected, his club coach Hansi Flick announced on Tuesday.
Kimmich should have had minor surgery on his right knee following an injury in the 3-2 win at Borussia Dortmund on 7. November to January canceled.
However, he has recovered faster than expected and it is « looking very good, » added Flick after Kimmich attended team training on Monday.
He could play in the key game against Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Bayern are currently one point behind second place in the table.
« We have to see how he will finish training in the coming days, » said Flick before Bayern’s home game against Wolfsburg on Wednesday, which Kimmich will miss.
« He has to listen to his body and weigh things up, then we will decide together if he will be involved over the weekend. «
Bayern have drawn their last two league games and Kimmich’s presence would improve their midfield options due to injury.
