Wilfred Ndidi, Caglar Soyuncu and Ricardo Pereira from Leicester City will return after injury in the Europa League clash in Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, manager Brendan Rodgers said on Wednesday.
Ndidi underwent groin surgery in September while Soyuncu was on hold in October due to a kidnap problem. Meanwhile, Pereira has not played since sustaining a knee ligament injury prior to the COVID-19 outage last season.
« Ndidi will play for us, soyuncu too. . . Ricardo played an U23 game, ”Rodgers told reporters.
“You are very important to us and it’s fantastic to have you back. (Timothy) Castagne is still out.
With Leicester already knocking out, Rodgers rested regulars Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel, Jonny Evans and Youri Tielemans with a view of Sunday’s Premier League game at Sheffield United.
« We left a few players behind – Evans, Tielemans and Schmeichel, » added Rodgers. “They were important to us and their international teams. You need a break, Jamie too. This allows them to prepare for the game on the weekend.
“I saw this tiredness in the team. You have to play so much. Jonny, Kasper and Youri have to play international games and so is the journey. ”
After the seniors have rested, Rodgers will turn to the U23 players for the trip to Ukraine.
“It’s an opportunity to play against some players who are making their comeback from injury, but also against some young players. But we still want to win the game, ”said Rodgers.
« We’re going to evaluate them here and most of them will sit on the bench. We’re going to play against our three older players, but they’re going to fold and we’ll see if we can recruit those players. ”
