Weltnachrichten – AU – Morecambe 4 Solihull Moors 2: Shrimps secure the FA Cup victory in extra time

. . Morecambe reached the third round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2003, but got an almighty shock.

. .

Two goals in extra time made for a breathless encounter at Mazuma Stadium after the players fell behind from Derek Adams, took the lead and then slipped back.

In an upside-down match, the shrimp halftime started at halftime in the 19th. Minute from Kyle Hudlin after goalkeeper Jake Turner made a blatant mistake.

That replaced him at halftime, whereupon two goals from Cole Stockton gave Morecambe the lead, only Jordan Cranston equalizing and sending the game in an extra half hour.

O’Sullivan then led the shrimp before a Mitch Hancox own goal secured their place in the next-round draw.

The visitors who beat another second division team in Scunthorpe United in Round 1 showed that they were not overwhelmed by the prospect of more EFL opponents.

Stephen Gleeson saw an early shot from long range from Turner before a better chance in the fifteen minutes.

Yann Songo’s trip against Joe Sbarra gave them a free kick right outside the box, but Jamey Osborne missed a chance to comfortably clear the bar.

Four minutes later, however, visitors took the lead they deserved in terms of game balance.

Turner couldn’t hold Cranston’s long-range shot, and Hudlin was the first to ricochet and tap into the empty net.

Moments later and it could have been 2-0 when Cranston’s deflected header hit the wood and was cleared from the line by Songo’o.

In contrast, Morecambe couldn’t generate much at the other end as Stockton came closest with a shot from Ryan Boot in the first 25 minutes.

They finally came into play when Stockton hit 37th. Minute scored another hit.

A ball down the canal gave him a peek at goal, but the end product was neither a shot on goal nor a pass to Carlos Mendes-Gomes.

Sam Lavelle saw a shot blocked and Songo’o dismissed a header from Boot when half-time came at exactly the wrong time for Morecambe.

Even so, Adams had seen enough when Turner and Jordan Slew both took off, Mark Halstead and Stephen Hendrie picked up and switched to three in the back.

It paid off almost immediately, but Ryan Cooney headed Harry Davis’ cross into the side netting.

Parity came on 53 minutes, however, when Mendes-Gomes steered a free kick into Stockton’s path and he shot home with vigor.

Almost as soon as they reached the level, Morecambe almost went back when Kelvin Mellor’s back pass to Halstead fell short.

Two minutes later, Morecambe was moving forward when they took possession of the ball deep in the Solihull half and Stockton swept home his second afternoon.

10 minutes later, however, the results were level again when Solihull broke out of a Morecambe corner and Cranston’s first goal scored the 2-2.

To their credit, both sides continued to push for a winner, with the Shrimps having the best chance as Stockton shot wide before the goalkeeper made two more attempts.

Mendes-Gomes saw one attempt deflected backwards, but that was close when both sides succeeded after 90 minutes.

Six minutes into extra time, the Shrimps took the lead when Stockton headed Hendrie’s cross and O’Sullivan dragged a header over Boot.

Solihull refused to drop his head, however, when Jamie Ward’s shot was deflected backwards and Cameron Archer made a spectacular attempt off target.

Three minutes into extra time, Morecambe finally got some breath when Stockton kicked a corner into goal and the ball was deflected by Hancox.

Your visitors still refused to lie down with Halstead to save James Ball, who was again distracted by Songo’o.

Boot still had time to avert a heavy shot from Hendrie, as Morecambe breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle.
