The International Cricket Council (ICC) announcement of Teams of the Decade for men and women in all formats has met mixed reactions regarding the choice of specific players.

There was great outrage over one such player, Pakistan’s current captain Babar Azam. Many social media users felt that Babar should have been named to the T20I Team of the Year because of his consistency and the number of runs he has had in recent years.

Not only Babar, not a single player from Pakistan was able to find a place on one of the men’s teams of the decade, which led to further criticism of the ICC and the selection criteria.

Babar, who has played T20 cricket since 2016, has played 44 games, of which he fought 42 innings, scoring 1,681 runs averaging 50. 94, including 16 more than fifty points.

Given that this was the team of the decade, some users felt that his fall was warranted as he only played in 5 of the 10 years of the decade while most of the selected players played longer than Babar.

Some of the users even compared Babar’s statistics with those of the South African maestro AB de Villiers, who was selected in the XI, where Babar, in addition to the hit rate, beat De Villiers very comprehensively in every department. Many users also felt that the team was more of an IPL XI than a World T20I XI, believing that players like Dawid Malan, Shaheen Afridi and Brendon McCullum were missing from the lineups.
