Despite an excellent performance by the defense, the Falcons’ offense only managed 14 points in their loss to the Chiefs. In this week’s movie review, we take a closer look at the lingering issues with Dirk Koetter’s schema and how it affects the game.

Despite a very impressive performance by the defense on Sunday – the understaffed, severely vicious Atlanta unit kept the reigning Super Bowl champion down to just 17 points – the Falcons lost again in the final minutes. The team put together just two hits in the entire game and had a third mistake when star kicker Younghoe Koo missed the 39-yard FG attempt.

At this point it honestly gets weird as the hawks seem to be losing all normal possibilities and are forced to come up with more and more creative ideas each week. We all know Atlanta can’t protect the leads, but they barely got the ball moving against the Chiefs. In this week’s Falcons Film Review, we’re going to take a closer look at the offensive fighting in Atlanta and see who deserves the blame.

In this week’s video, I canceled the opening drive from Atlanta – where the team got off to a hot start for a big game against Todd Gurley, only to negate the following three games and the Kansas City 49 punt. It was a perfect summary of all the problems with Koetter’s scheme: ineffective runs on early downs, incredibly conservative playcalls on 2nd down, and high-difficulty games on 3rd and long.

I plan to make another video that will showcase more statistics on Koetter’s schematic problems. However, this is a fine example of some of his worst tendencies and flaws as a playcaller and offensive designer.

Hope you enjoy this week’s movie review! Please leave your comments below (preferably constructive) and let me know what other types of glitches you would like to see. If you haven’t already, click the « Like » button and subscribe to our YouTube channel!
