The cricket community has expressed disgust after Perth Scorchers pacemaker Andrew Tye was robbed by an old-fashioned umpire howler. .

BBL: Referee Simon Lightbody turned that decision into an absolute meal when Usman Khawaja cleared a delivery from Andrew Tye to Josh Inglis. Don’t go out, said Lightbody.

The Big Bash League DRS debate reignited after another referee howl during the Sydney Thunder clash with the Perth Scorchers at the Manuka Oval on Tuesday evening.

For several years, players and spectators have been pleading for DRS technology to be used in the T20 tournament so that referee errors can be corrected on the field.

Cricket Australia has opposed the introduction of the DRS because of the significant financial implications, but those pleas escalated after scorcher bowler Andrew Tye was deprived of a certain wicket in the country’s capital on Tuesday.

In the sixth round of the Thunder chase, opening Thunder batsman Usman Khawaja attempted to toss a full shipment of Tye back on the ground but only managed to get the ball through to the wicketkeeper.

The Scorchers celebrated enthusiastically, but referee Simon Lightbody was apparently the only person on the field who didn’t hear the Snick and chose not to allow the dismissal.

Tye raged: “How did the bat fall on the ground? It was so far from the ground! “

The Fox Cricket commentary could barely make out what they had seen, as the edge was easily heard on the blunt microphones and Khawaja’s bat wasn’t close to the ground.

« That’s regulation . . . unfortunately he only had a shock there. This is just a major turning point. This is a major turning point. ”

« I really have to keep my ears open at home to hear the woman speak to me, but I actually heard that from the border on the back square leg, » Munro said cheekily to Fox Cricket.

The decision sparked violent backlash on social media, leading to the argument that the DRS should be included in the Big Bash.

Perhaps spend less money on fireworks, bright lights and people dancing and invest in the DRS in the BBL. If the competition is to be taken seriously, as it should, the game has to take itself seriously. # BBL10

Lol, why don’t we have at least one rating on BBL? Khawaja is my favorite player in the BBL, but that’s a criminal. Did the referee forget his glasses or? # BBL10

Cricket icon Adam Gilchrist tweeted: “You only got up because he hit the cover of it. ”

The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Jones tweeted, « As terrible as this referee decision was, I can live with it. I prefer the old days to all of these reviews. ”

Luckily for the Scorchers, Khawaja was fired for 21 shortly afterwards and Jason Behrendorff was given an easy catch from Aaron Hardie’s bowling.

Earlier this month, Thunder captain Callum Ferguson argued that the BBL would lag behind the competing T20 tournaments if the DRS were not introduced.

« We certainly like to believe that we are among the top T20 tournaments in the world, » said Ferguson from the ABC grandstand. « But due to the fact that there are no little things like DRS, I feel like we are definitely falling short of the IPL. « .

« If we’re trying to be the best we can, we have to have little things like DRS.

« I don’t care if they make it in the middle of the tournament. Let’s just do it. ”

The Thunder eventually chased the 153-run target with three balls. Ferguson looted an unbeaten half century while debutant Oliver Davies contributed 36 of 22 balls.
