One motorcyclist is dead and another is killed this morning after a horror crash on a charity drive in north Perth.
Police say a Honda motorcycle crashed into a barrier and caught fire just after 9 am on the Mitchell Freeway northbound between Hepburn and Whitfords Avenues in Padbury. 30 o’clock.
Shortly thereafter, two other bikers crashed after approaching the scene. Police say the BRP Spyder and Suzuki drivers braked hard to avoid the wreckage.
The 67-year-old Spyder rider and his 56-year-old pillion passenger and the 59-year-old woman on the Suzuki were all from St. John Ambulance taken to the hospital.
All motorcyclists are believed to have participated in the Perth Bikers Charity Ride Christmas Toy Run, which this year marked the fundraiser’s 45th anniversary.
Thousands of bikers traveled from the Optus Stadium to the HBF Arena in Joondalup and collected money, toys and groceries for the Salvation Army’s Christmas appeal.
A passenger waiting at Whitfords train station at the time told The West Australian that he saw three motorcycles at the scene and one that was « badly damaged » in the impact.
The incident has resulted in severe congestion and drivers have been urged to exercise extreme caution and anticipate delays. You will be asked to allow additional travel time.
