Rogers Sportsnet said the Toronto native has a « voice that has become synonymous with Blue Jays baseball. ”
Wilner said in a social media post on Friday that “his heart is broken,” but added that he is grateful for the chance to “live an absolute dream. ”
Wilner knew baseball inside out and was never shy of voicing his opinion, whether people liked it or not.
Before the 2019 season, he became the full-time radio announcer for the Blue Jays alongside Ben Wagner.
Wilner named most of the games in 2018 after longtime announcer Jerry Howarth retired.
