The live shows of the 19th. Seasons of The Voice started on Monday – but they were only a candidate!

Ryan Gallagher, a 31-year-old classically trained singer from Ada, Michigan, was one of the contenders for the 4-way knockout that took place last week. When hosts Carson Daly announced the winner on Monday, he told viewers that Gallagher – who represented Kelly Clarkson’s team in the face-off for the only remaining place in the top 17 – « had to » end the competition. « 

Knockout winner Taryn Papa was selected from the votes cast for the three remaining participants.

Many fans speculated that the reason for Gallagher’s departure was family-related, as he had shared with coaches in the previous rounds that his mother had been hospitalized with COVID-19. However, the singer later went to his Instagram Stories to share that his family was fine.

« Thank you everyone for your concern for my family, » said Gallagher. « Anyway, everyone’s fine, that’s not what happened on The Voice tonight. I didn’t get off the show. Details are yet to come, I’ll keep you updated.

Ultimately, ET learned that Gallagher had violated The Voice’s strict COVID protocols and was therefore not allowed to compete out of concerns for the safety of the trainers, crew and competitors.

Gallagher later shared a selfie of himself in a tuxedo with his story in which he wrote, « 2020 you are interesting. « 

The Voice looks a little different this season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Safety glass separates the trainers and team members and separate performance rooms on the stage for the battle and knockout rounds. However, before the season started, coach Gwen Stefani noticed how excited the coaches were to be back in some form and bring some music and joy into people’s lives.

« I think it will definitely be fun to sit down and watch a show that is so inspiring and that inspires people, » she noted. « Music is the heartbeat of people so I feel really blessed to be here and a part of it and to be able to connect with America on TV. « 

« Perhaps the reason there is so much talent is because a lot of people take a break and pursue the dream in ways that they haven’t gotten to because they might work or work you were in school « , added her. « I think there is a different kind of group of people this time because we are all just standing still in the world. «
