Countdown host Nick Hewer, 76, announced that he will be leaving the show after 10 years earlier this month. As he pondered his career, he discussed surprising messages and emails he had received from fans. The moderator said, “I am very happy that I had more bouquets of flowers than Brickbats during my tenure. I’ve never been trolled before.
“In fact, I was touched by the friendly news on social media when I announced my resignation. ”
But the countdown star said he had « occasionally » received « risqué fan mail » with some items « unsettling » him. .
He continued, « Two such items made me gasp: the first a pair of red nylon panties of the crotchless type from a woman in Swindon, my hometown; the other an envelope full of confetti with a card that (often) said, « Marry me, marry me », along with a phone number.

Nick admitted that he had « given away » the underwear, but feared that a stalker was behind the handwritten marriage proposal.
« I haven’t heard from my fiancée in love again, » he added in his column with the Daily Mail online.
Nick’s reveal comes after he announced he will be stepping down from the Channel 4 Show Countdown after 10 years.
On Twitter, the host said he had time to think about his life during the lockdown and decided he wouldn’t renew his contract for January when he turns 77. Birthday is approaching.
As part of his long testimony, he wrote, « As someone in his 77th. At the age of ten, which will host the great UK institution Countdown when it is ten, I think it’s time to smell the flowers and get a dog. «
Nick said it was « a privilege and a pleasure » to host the afternoon show and that he would be on screen « well into 2021 ». .
He thanked his co-stars Rachel Riley and Susie Dent as well as the team and viewers for their support.
After his announcement, Rachel took to Twitter to encourage viewers to submit ideas for Nick before he left.

Susie also shared Nick’s post on her Twitter page, writing, « The voice of a gentleman who is greatly missed. «
In 2005, the presenter also began working for The Apprentice as one of Lord Sugar’s advisors.
Away from the cameras, Nick lives a quiet life with his partner Catherine in rural Northamptonshire.
