Haaland misses Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool due to injury
Manchester City’s prolific striker, Erling Haaland, was absent from the squad that faced Liverpool on Saturday due to a groin injury. The Norwegian international had to withdraw from his country’s European Championship qualifiers against Spain and Georgia last week because of the problem. Despite City manager Pep Guardiola’s hopes that Haaland would recover in time for the game, he was not fit to play. Haaland leads the Premier League scoring charts with 28 goals and has scored 42 goals in all competitions this season.
City and Liverpool battle for crucial points
The game between Manchester City and Liverpool was crucial for both teams. City is eight points behind first-place Arsenal with a game in hand, while Liverpool is fighting to secure a top-four spot for Champions League qualification. With Haaland out of the squad, World Cup winner Julian Alvarez started up front for the defending champions along with Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish. City was also without winger Phil Foden, who is recovering from appendix surgery.
City’s upcoming fixtures
Manchester City will play at Southampton next weekend before a mid-week match against Bayern Munich in the semifinals of the Champions League. Despite Haaland’s absence, City will be hoping to continue their impressive form and secure crucial points in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
