World news – 10 things: Raptors storm back in Sacramento as Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam shine

The Toronto Raptors fought for a feel-good win over the Sacramento Kings after an early deficit.

One – Joy: Maybe it’s just a temporary break from defeat, but this was the first burst of joy in an otherwise miserable start to the year. After a dismal start, the Raptors not only showed a fight at roaring back, but also dominated the opponent, playing with a pace and boast that were previously lacking. Toronto flocked to the points all four quarters and showed no slack even when it came to unit two, and it all culminated in a glorious blowout win. It is all the more satisfactory to achieve this result in the absence of Kyle Lowry, who had to sit out for personal reasons.

Two – WTF: The Raptors were on their way to a new low after the Kings in the first quarter of 18 of 22 could shoot for 46 points. Sacramento’s guards got into the paint at will, and its newbies dressed up and down in the square. Much of this was self-inflicted as the Raptors made basic defensive mistakes, such as: B. Allowing De’Aaron Fox to go straight over the edge, or playing Marvin Bagley to get to his favorite left hand, or just stupid tasks in transition. It would never take all four quarters, but it was up to the Raptors to share responsibility and play on purpose. There have been far too many moments this season when the Raptors bowed their heads after giving up a run and lost confidence in the offensive and in each other, but they made it and fought their way back as a group.

Three – Leader: Fred VanVleet was the first to start the comeback and then he put the Raptors in the lead for good. VanVleet was all the Raptors needed to start the game when he got to the edge, hit pull-up threesomes and pitched his teammates, which enabled the Raptors to keep their heads afloat. Once his teammates matched his intensity, VanVleet took his game to another level. He scored 16 points in the third quarter, ditching jumpers from 30 feet and whirling contested layups against defenders a foot taller. He also found his teammates for cutting layups and was flawless defensively. VanVleet finished the game with 34 points in 33 minutes and could easily have hit 40 if the game hadn’t already been over when he returned for the fourth quarter.

Four – patience: Pascal Siakam laid the structure for that The raptors passed away just like he did against the suns to begin the road trip. Siakam gave the Raptors a consistent threat to score in the color, and he reached the basket in a single cover at will. When the kings sent help, Siakam was both precise and patient in reading his defense. Siakam posted a career high of 11 assists and bounced back just before his first triple double. The speed of this game suited him, especially how easily the kings were on the defensive, but there is also a noticeable increase in confidence for Siakam who has played at all-star level in the last three games. The two most important realizations are that he gets a lot more in the basket than he relies on his sweater and that he influences the game with his speed and pace.

Five – Promising: This was the first outbreak for rookie Malachi Flynn. He was goalless when he got into that game and Lowry’s absence meant Flynn was actually counted as a key reserve. Flynn grabbed the drought early with a swimmer in the lane for his first career basket and made another driving jumper shortly thereafter. That set up its emphatic expansion in the fourth quarter to open the game wide where Flynn hit a deep three, set up another triple, rallied the rebound, cut in for a layup, got a stop before catching another catch -and ended -Shot three that increased the lead to 21. There is still some nerve to shake, especially if Flynn temporarily loses his dribble which goes against his cool demeanor, but he finished the 5-of-6 shooting in 17 minutes with 12 point minutes and this will give him utterly confidence > Six – Active: The whole game turned when Chris Boucher went down in the middle of the first quarter. The Raptors were still bleeding at the time, and King’s rookie Tyrese Haliburton put Boucher on a highlight with a gentle crossover that resulted in a stepback three, but the Raptors caught fire themselves too. Boucher’s ability to land around the basket gave the Raptors another option on the offensive and brought balance to their attack. Keeping it simple, Boucher waited patiently for Siakam or VanVleet to beat their defenders before moving decisively. He would either cut to the basket and get the release pass, or he would jump out to the edge for the three. The faster the pace got, the easier it was for Boucher to shine, as his speed and athleticism are designed to go up and down.

Seven – Switch: The nurse put Aron Baynes on the bench for Alex Len, but it did made little difference. Len looked like a minivan in an F1 race and was quickly sent to the bench after just five minutes. The remaining 43 minutes in the middle were either given to Boucher, who logged 29 minutes, or the Raptors just went to the ground without a big one and made it work with three wings in the forecourt. Not only did this allow the Raptors to step out in transition and match the pace of the Kings, it also gave the Raptors more of a chance to play their token of defense, which is characterized by swarming the ball and shooting around the perimeter of chases from chasing the line. None of this is really possible with Len or Baynes, and Nurse should consider using smallball to her advantage, not just as a last resort. There will be poor matches and some chromatic aberrations, but that happened to its traditional centers anyway.

Eight – Revived: Norman Powell continues to thrive with the starters. Powell started with Lowry and entered his best game of the season with a highly efficient play of 22 points in just eight attempts to shoot. Powell’s role becomes a lot easier with the starters as he no longer has to create for himself. Instead, he can only concentrate on making the most of his chances, be it catching and shooting threes, slitting into the basket or running out in transition. The nurse says he will consider starting Powell, although doing so would create an imbalance in the top five simply because Powell is just so productive with the first session.

Nine – Reserve: Terence Davis was in extended the first five with Powell and repeated the same formula with the second unit. Davis is unpredictable and makes inexplicable decisions, but he’s also a capable goalscorer who can complete efficiently as long as others are working for him. Matt Thomas seemed way ahead to start the year, but Davis is slowly winning the job back. It’s a little redundant for Powell and Davis to both get banked, but the good news is that the Raptors have options for immediate bank insults.

Ten – Estimated: There’s something to be said when one plays hard, and Yuta Watanabe exhausts herself on every shift. Watanabe can only be described as chaotic, defensive, and ricochet, like all possession was Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and he takes very little for himself on the other end. Watanabe’s rebound is especially valuable to this team as they’ve fought on the glass so far and Sister mentioned it as an option as a backup power forward. As long as Watanabe maintains this level of activity, he’ll play a role in the rotation.

ESPN’s most recent mock draft from 2021 is fortunate in Washington to become a potential franchise QB at number 19 on the NFL draft. </ Stephen Curry scored 38 points and the Golden State Warriors were able to make up a large deficit in the second half on Friday night to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 115-105. The Warriors were down 21 at the end of the third quarter, but Curry scored 19 points during that period and moved Golden State into fourth within six minutes. Golden State (5-4) beat Los Angeles 34:18 in the last 12 minutes and lost four games against the Clippers, who they defeated two nights earlier at the Chase Center.
