NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan. 10 – The ministry of health reported 87 COVID- 19 cases out of a sample of 3,766 tested within 24 hours, bringing the total to 98,271 confirmed cases in the country since March.
The cases, the lowest in the past few days, represented a positivity rate of 2.3 percent versus 3.5 percent on Saturday.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the cases included 78 Kenyans and 9 foreigners, of whom 58 were men and 29 were women.
The youngest case was five years old while the oldest is said to be 88 years old.
Kagwe said 6 more patients succumbed to the disease over the same period, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country to 1,710.
67 patients recovered from the disease, 55 of whom were from home care and 12 were discharged from hospitals, with the total number of recoveries being 80,875.
The ministry said there are currently 676 COVID-19 patients admitted to various healthcare facilities and 2,142 into home care and isolation across the country.
It was reported that 32 patients were in the intensive care unit, 20 of whom were ventilated.
