Canelo Alvarez will continue his quest to unify the super middleweight division against Billy Joe Saunders at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on May 8, which will host more than 60,000 fans, Matchroom Promotions announced on Friday with.
Alvarez, boxing’s biggest star and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, puts his titles in WBC, WBA and The Ring magazines on the line to secure Saunders’ WBO belt to fetch. Advance ticket sales begin on Tuesday at 11 a.m. (CET). The fight will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.
Matchroom Promotions expects the largest sports audience in the US since the coronavirus pandemic shutdown began in March 2020 with an expected capacity of between 60,000 and 70,000. Alvarez’s September 2016 fight against Liam Smith at AT&T Stadium had 51,240 fans, including 5,125 free tickets.

This is the third fight in the last six months for Alvarez (55-1-2, 37 KOs) after beating mandatory challenger Avni Yildirim in February in the third round at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and unanimously winning over the previously undefeated in December Callum Smith.
Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) is a two-weight champion who won unanimously against Martin Murray in December.
The fight will take place the weekend after Cinco de Mayo, one important date for the Mexican Alvarez, who is sure to have a large number of fans present to see him fight. UK Saunders will bring their own fans to the unification battle.
