MMA heavyweight Gabi Garcia sparked a backlash in the fighting world after calling out the lightweight Kayla Harrison, who weighs almost 40kg less than her.
The Brazilian, nicknamed « She Hulk », went on Twitter to attack Harrison, who won the 2019 Professional Fighters League lightweight championship.
Garcia, 35, tweeted, « I’m waiting for @KaylaH for 3 years. Tell me how much she wants me to drop weight to take on the fight! Just excuses and jokes here! »
The 188cm jiu-jitsu and grappling champion regularly weighs nearly 100kg and has won six of her seven pro-MMA bouts, one of which ends without competition.
Garcia made headlines in 2016 when she fought against Yumiko Hotta, a pro wrestler with little fighting experience. Hotta was weighed 20 kg and gave away 20 cm in height.
The farcical fight lasted only 41 seconds as Garcia took him to the ground and made her way to victory.
« How about beating someone out of the old people’s house who has a real heartbeat and then you can put my name in your mouth.
Garcia took the bait and replied, « I made more money than you won without a sweat, but now you don’t respect the other girls I fought!
« Do you want to wager your single million and I will wager a million to fight this fight? Or will you make an apology? »
Fellow MMA star Liv Parker also struck Garcia in the middle of her feud with Harrison.
« If you want to crack a joke, you (Garcia) are the one who fights against 50-year-old wrestlers who are 1/4 your height and weight. »
« Do you really think she (Garcia) can be taken seriously, given her track record? » She added.
« I also know how hard the women before me, including you, fought to pave the way for women in the & sport. Your antics only feed the critics even more. Not whom I want to repeat as a female fighter.
Harrison is considered one of the most successful fighters of all time with two Olympic gold medals in judo.
The American, who previously trained with UFC legend Ronda Rousey, has lost 8-0 since her MMA debut in 2018.
