Former Australian captain Greg Chappell wrote an open letter to skipper Tim Paine where he encourages him to learn from his mistakes and explains that abuse is cheap and reflects the weakness of character.
In an open letter in the Sydney Morning Herald, Chappell wrote, “Abuse is not acceptable in any workplace and Conversations are cheap in my opinion. It doesn’t show one’s strength. Rather, it shows a character weakness. «
» I urge you to impress the team so that the bat and ball do the talking and set better examples for millions of impressionable little boys and girls so they don’t imitate the worst instincts and actions of their sports heroes.
“You have led Australia with flair, courage and humor and after the events in Cape Town three years ago you made an immense contribution to rebuilding the image of Australian cricket. I urge you to continue leading as you have been since taking over the captaincy.

« Your Mea Culpa and your promise to do better after Sydney is a step in the right direction. It shows remorse and determination to get things going again. I have no doubt that you have a year or two of good cricket left in you, and critics who are piling up should judge you on time, not on a crazy afternoon, « he finished his letter.
This letter came after Paine’s performance and sledding during the third test, for which the Australian skipper received massive criticism.
