An off-duty police officer was killed while riding a bike in Victoria

A cyclist was killed when a car collided with his bike in Victoria this morning A 42-year-old police officer was out of service, authorities confirmed

Police Chief Dennis Cox, 42, was riding his bike when he was hit by a car at Sea Lake on Thursday morning.

Police said in a statement: “Unfortunately, we can confirm that the cyclist who was killed in Sea Lake this morning was an off-duty police officer.

“Officer Commander Dennis Cox has been a respected and admired member of the Sea Lake community, having worked on the station’s one-person community for the past eight years

“Victoria Police expresses its deepest sympathy and condolences to Dennis’s immediate and extended family and friends”

His death comes several months after the eastern highway crash resulted in the killing of Cop Glen Humphres, Chief Constable Kevin King, Chief Constable Lynette Taylor and Constable Joshua Priestney

“We’ve just ruined the big, beautiful Dennis family.” Someone wrote “You won’t find a more loving and generous family”
