Emma Hayes was « grateful » that Chelsea only conceded one away goal and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger after the 2: 1 victory of their team against Wolfsburg as the best in the world.

The Blues enter the second leg of their Champions League quarter-finals with a lead of one goal. Pernille Harder scores against their former club.

Chelsea took the lead in the 55th minute after a clever connection game between Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr with the Australian goal before Harder used a defensive round to get the ball into the bottom corner However, Dominique Janssen scored an important away goal from the penalty spot 20 minutes before the end of the game.

« First and foremost, the goalkeeper’s job is to save. But she’s the best in the world, she’s incredible and she’s did a great job, « said Hayes of Berger.

» I think in games like these you have to recognize that, together with Lyon, they have been so dominant in Europe for so many years that based on years of experience they always have Will have the upper hand on the English side. I think it worked out as I expected.

« I expected them to dominate the odds like they did. I’m grateful we only conceded one away goal. «

The Germans reached the final last year and have history with Hayes’ side after knocking Chelsea out of the competition for three consecutive seasons from 2015-2016.

But the Blues go into the second leg with a slight advantage and Hayes said: « I learned that you have to suffer in a few moments, but in the first leg it’s always about staying in a tie, that’s it. » / p> « There is no home advantage for either team and I feel like the advantage is with them because they scored the away goal, but I thought we were spirited with a lot of good performances from us. »

« The reality is that this is a team that has developed well over several years. I think anyone can believe this would be an easy draw for them. We gave them a game and I am happy about that.  »

He said: « Right now I’m obviously very sad about the result because I think we had enough chances to score a goal and maybe win the game. So that’s the negative part. » </ p "But I'm proud of the team because I think the team did a great job. Maybe we played our best game of the season so it's sad because we hit the post twice and others had good chances . "
