Aleksandar Mitrovic continued his heroics for Serbia with a decisive double to score a 2-1 victory in Azerbaijan and temporarily put his team at the top of World Cup qualifying group A.
The 26- Yearlings became Serbia’s all-time top scorer with his first goal in a 2-2 comeback against Portugal when he built on a double in the 3-2 opening win over Ireland.
Two more goals in the 16th and 81st minutes in Baku on Tuesday put Serbia in a strong position with seven points from three games, although Emin Makhmudov scored a penalty for Azerbaijan on the hour.
Portugal can and will match Serbia’s seven points when it comes to Luxembourg later lead the goal difference with a 3-goal win.
