World news – Ashley Cole agrees with Martin Keown on Kieran Tierney after Spurs win

Arsenal won again on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League and prevailed 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium against rivals Tottenham Hotspur from north London

Arsenal defeated rivals Tottenham Hotspur from north London on Sunday afternoon London through and won 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

After falling back on Erik Lamela’s expert start, the Gunners returned to the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening against Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg of their last 16 showdowns in the UEFA Europa League and turned the game upside down on either side of the halftime goals from Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette.

Though the win that secured Arsenal’s first win against Spurs since December 2018 didn’t put them above tenth place in the Premier League table, it made them stand out in the race to secure the Europa League- Could assert soccer ahead of the next season.

After ten Premier League games, Mikel Arteta’s side are five points behind sixth-placed Liverpool, which means their ambition to finish in the top six this season is far from over.

Although the Gunners fell behind against Spurs on Sunday, they were certainly the more dominant of the two teams for the most part and regularly looked like they were more likely to score. The Gunners kept coming down their left flank, aiming at Gareth Bale and Matt Doherty, causing endless trouble through Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe.

While Smith Rowe has not had a tendency to regularly play wide this season, Tierney got better and better as the season progressed as he moved forward from the left-back. The vast majority of Arsenal’s attacks are on the left with Tierney the chief architect.

During his first two seasons at the Emirates Stadium, the Scottish international has grown in strength and established himself as one of the most valuable players in the Arteta squad.

And his performance against Spurs on Sunday afternoon received special praise from former Gunners center-back Martin Keown, who lyrically spoke about the way the former Celtic man had teamed up with Smith Rowe on the left .

Keown told BBC Sport: « [Kieran] Tierney and [Emile] Smith Rowe, the positions they held were excellent.

 » He [Tierney] kept finding him in the pockets of space and pulled Tottenham’s midfield where they didn’t want to go. [Gareth] Bale didn’t offer anything defensive.

Keown isn’t the first expert, player or manager to make fun of Tierney’s qualities. The Scot has received numerous praises in recent months, including from Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho.

Another ex-Arsenal player who agrees with Keown on the runs that Tierney can create and position is ex-left-back Ashley Cole.

The former England international praised the attacking full-back in July last year as the 2019/20 Premier League season came to an end.

« I think one thing Arsenal probably lacked over the past year was a left-back who was solid and wasn’t beaten in one-on-one situations – he will be in one-on-one situations not beaten.  » « said Cole, as quoted by TEAMtalk. » But I also think the way he attacks and the timing of his attack runs gives Arsenal a different element and a different style of attack.

« And he has a great performance as we just saw, a great ball that ended in a corner, so it was very good for Arsenal I think.

« It was solid. He came to Arsenal with high expectations and watched him at Celtic. He was brilliant. And then he came with an injury, he didn’t start the season and now he’s starting to get fit again and to be a star of this Arsenal defense for me.

“Whether he plays as a three-way left-back, I think , he has top qualities. He can play against a striker, he can join attacks well, he has good passing quality and he can defend in one-on-one situations.

That Tierney from two of Arsenal’s greatest defenders in their history Has received so much praise speaks volumes for the Scot’s talents. He has just gotten stronger this season and has certainly shown all the qualifications needed to get even better with age.

This season Tierney has made 30 appearances for the Gunners, scored two goals and received four assists, what are in truth numbers that do not do justice to his achievements.
