At this year’s Cesar Awards, France’s counterpart to the Oscars, an actress undressed on stage in protest against the closure of cinemas and theaters in the age of coronavirus.

Corinne Masiero’s call to culture came when she won the award for presented the best costume.

« Is that too rubbish? » Masiero asked the socially distant audience before taking off the donkey costume to reveal what looked like a blood-soaked dress.

The eccentric star of the popular detective series Capitaine Marleau then took off the dress and revealed messages on her body, including: “No culture, no future” and one addressed to French Prime Minister Jean Castex: “Give us art back, Jean . ”

The audience applauded, but some social media posts denounced that the 46th Cesar Awards was a descent into vulgarity.

The #MeToo movement was at the ceremony prominent last year, when the famous director Roman Polanski received the award for best director for An Officer And A Spy amid protests from women’s groups and some strikes.

Polanski, who did not attend the event, is in the USA Wanted decades after raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

In 2019, a woman accused Polanski of raping her in his Swiss chalet in 1975 when she was 18 years old. Polanski denies the allegations.

Part-time actors are currently occupying several theaters across France, including the famous Parisian Odeon Theater, to seek more government aid.

Culture Minister Roselyne Bachelot has been the subject of numerous jokes. The moderator of the ceremony, actress and comedian Marina Fois, noted the minister’s planned book, which contained recipes, « Little comforting things to overcome this crisis ».

The minister’s representatives said the book La Vie En Rose will not come out according to French media reports.

Fourteen-year-old Fathia Youssouff, named Most Promising Actress for Mignonnes ( Cuties) urged aspiring youngsters to follow their dreams.
