The third seeded Marin Cilic from Croatia will face the un seeded Australian Alexei Popyrin in the semifinals of the ATP Singapore Open 2021. The game is scheduled to play on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 3:30 a.m. EST. This is the first meeting between the two players. Who will win and advance to the first final of the year?

Marin Cilic is a former top 5 player and Grand Slam champion. However, in recent years he has had major problems with form and fitness. Amazingly, this is the first time in two years that he has reached a semi-finals on the ATP Tour. He will be relieved to have broken this streak and will be very excited to get his 2021 season off to a good start by winning the title here. While his play has been in decline lately, he still has huge weapons in his serve and forehand that are still to be reckoned with. He looked good this week and proved his fitness isn’t an issue by surviving Soon-Woo Kwon in three sets in a highly entertaining match that really could have gone either way. He enters this game as an overwhelming favorite, but will be aware that his opponent has been in great shape so far this year.

Alexei Popyrin is currently in 114th place and has long been considered a top young talent on the ATP Tour . Until recently, however, it largely failed to exhaust this enormous potential. He got off to a strong start in 2021, highlighted by a quarter-finals in Adelaide before impressing David Goffin at the Australian Open. Like Cilic, he has big serve and big ground hits, with persistence and mental struggles being his falls. He seems to have it all put together and looked superb this week, convincingly beating Matthew Ebden in the quarterfinals. He enters this match as an underdog but is certainly capable of causing a stir.

I’m going with Marin Cilic to win this match. They have similar games but the gap in experience is huge and I expect him to use that to his advantage. If his level drops Popyrin can cause some problems, but trust Cilic to win here and advance to the final.
