. .

Melbourne New Year races head to Flemington for an eight-race program. The weather is good, the route is good (4) and the track is three meters long for the entire route.

Like 2 Dauntless (Bet Now: $ 5. 50) in the opener. Team McEvoy trained filly which is just debuting and she looked pretty sharp in a couple of jumps. The last one came here and saw her leading all the time and doing her business really well, I thought in solid time. Don’t think this is a tough two year race and she can get away with this race.

Just growing 3 frost flowers (bet now: $ 4. 40) commands respect. Daughter of Frosted out of a talented mare in Itameri who makes her debut. Her last jump came here last Thursday. She was close to speed and went pretty well to the line without jumping up and down. Stall must be respected with their youngsters.

1 Andalusia (bet now: $ 12. 00) has racing experience on their side. Debuted the 1000m at Bendigo where she was off-speed before continuing to peel in clear air and I liked the way she finished second behind Rusheen. Racing experience is very valuable in such races and John Allen controls. Win wouldn’t shock at all.

Do you think two-digit numbers are fair enough to find out if 17 Zoulah (bet now: $ 10). 00) runs out the 2000m. Well in defeat fresh over the mile in Morphettville before the same set up a few weeks ago and really . . . it was in the mix for the 2020 slaughter. Terrible ride from Vorster and with a clear path she probably wins by a few lengths. Run like eating up the 2000m and getting Jamie Kah to ride.

3 playoffs (bet now: $ 10. 00) is a progressive stalker who is headed in the right direction. He ran over 2,000m at Caulfield mid-week when he was just slowing down before peeling into the clear air and running late. He just missed Astraeus who had the track pattern in his corner and was just too good. The playoffs need to improve and will be better for the 2000 meter run.

5 Doroza (bet now: $ 15. 00) is doing pretty well for Matt Cumani at the moment and I think this has to be respected. He ran at Pakenham a few weeks ago, where he was pretty much the only survivor of those approaching speed, and did very well against Zachaz in fifth. If he can drive a little more economically in transit, he thinks he is dangerous.

5 Tralee Rose (Bet Now: $ 2. 70) looks relatively safe in a thin race. Symon Wilde has this mare super at the moment. There were four of me on the jump the last time she drove over 2500 m here. He was close to victory and looked a few steps home, but was caught late by Miyake. Giving a good weight relief to a mare and giving a little bit of yielding in the course if the rain forecast is correct won’t affect her chances.

2 Djukon (bet now: $ 10. 00) looks like he’s been hired for this race. Freshen up six weeks before heading over 2600m here. Had the peach sat near speed and presented once, the winner looked. Just think his condition has become late. Lets drive Olly and sets his record. He’s really good at the weights that I feel.

8 Saint Eustace (Bet Now: $ 9. 00) can prove hard for the Price / Kent team to beat. I ran an open handicap at Flemington two weeks ago when I came back quickly and I thought he was a little unhappy behind Wentwood. I’m not sure he would win but should have come closer. That being said, 2800m is fine here and the overall depth is not great.

Fitter and at home, I think 4 Sirius Suspect (Bet Now: $ 3. 40) can win again. Saab Hassan is training this gelding who was close to a good pace a few weeks ago at Pakenham, his first run since Cup Day, and he was just too tough and too good for his rivals in a great performance. Should be more suitable on the straight. Hard to beat.

1 Graff (Bet Now: $ 6. 00) has class on his side and that will take him a long way here. Has been kept on hold since moving a mile back and catching up well behind the Stars Sprinter late in the VRC Sprint Classic behind Bivouac. Seems to do best with fresh legs and his two runs for the new stable were excellent.

7 albumin (bet now: $ 20. 00) is one that I can entertain for broader multiples. Ryan / Alexiou trained gray, which was resumed a few weeks ago over 1100m in Rosehill. Had the sucker been past speed and for a few steps when it cleared it looked the winner. Was shut down late by Pandemic which was superb last Saturday so he’s in good shape yet the underdog.

3 I’ll tell you (bet now: $ 7. 50) saves his best for the straight course at Flemington so I think he can be a big improver here. Barely a second in Flemington on Stakes Day after Leiter before heading to Pakenham, where the track gave way a bit and he just struggled through and through. I would forgive this effort. After the resumption, he will be one to watch late on.

I like assembler and weight relief for the gelding 7 Alburq trained by Michael Moroney (Bet Now: $ 5. 50). A few weeks ago in Flemington, he drove over 1200m back down the straight, where he leaned back from the speed and worked well home, without really threatening behind Memphis Rock. This race was badly rated for the meeting, but this guy has quality when he’s right and has advantages.

10 Modear (Bet Now: $ 8. 50) certainly has the engine under the hood to shake this. Patrick Payne coached a mare that was resumed midweek at Sandown, where she kicked back from the speed before peeling in clear air, and I liked the way she disappointed herself and sprinted hard late around to book a strong first win. This effort must be respected here.

6 Kuramae (Bet Now: $ 12. 00) looks at odds here. Matty Williams trained a mare who was four weeks between runs since she was resumed at Pakenham, where she was closer to the inside, which was quicksand for the meet. So forgive this excursion behind metronomes. Better suited here and has a good chance of winning the penultimate preparation on this route / distance.

2 Shahzade (Bet Now: $ 6. 00) has returned for Freedman warehouse in really good condition. Could easily say she should have won fresh on Pakenham. I just got held up in a crucial phase when I wanted to get clear and increase the speed. Got out late, charged up and just missed it. Any indication of an improvement in it and you will likely win. Only the gate concerns me.

13 Maggie Miss (Bet Now: $ 20. 00) can be a big improver here. She liked them at odds last time at Caulfield and at first glance she was pretty ordinary behind Hearty Lass but was found lame after the race so there were excuses for her. Almost $ 20 here seems to be good for this mare, Williams is staying and the indicators are back.

5 Hasseltoff (bet now: $ 3. 60) for me in a two-horse race. This time he was a real model of consistency. His last run was at this distance / distance where he was rated 12/10 by Lane and looked the winner. In a terse finish, however, the photo took the Independent Road route. Tickets much better than this horse here, Kah rides, the race runs . . . hard to beat.

7 Nikau Spur (Bet Now: $ 3. 50) looks progressive and is going in the right direction. Have it as the main threat, but it’s short enough. Yes, very good last time in the valley when I did it, but it was a virgin, and overall I would say a very thin virgin. However, he’s upside down and in the correct camp, plus Johnny Allen remains.

6 Highland Jakk (Bet now: $ 9. 50) should be suitable for Rob Hickmott here. His lone career win is more advanced, but a likely decent pace will help his cause. His run at Flemington off Independent Road was pretty good as they ran home really late, a setup this guy doesn’t like but still went well for third place. A more ideal speed can win.

Can see good speed up here so look for one that pulls away and is strong late. One that I could have a stain on with great odds is 12 Revlis (Bet Now: $ 46. 00). I thought he had a huge loss last time at Warrnambool, did a pile of work four wide with no cover for the trip, and really got the squadrons too late. Pulls gently, Senior Jock takes over, and $ 61 doesn’t have to be a lot to turn a profit.

3 Fundraiser (Bet Now: $ 2. 80) goes in the right direction for the Hayes / Dabernig team. I thought it was a very good effort on the horse to win the 1400m with the 61 last time at Sandown. 5 kg impost. He wasn’t accelerating as he normally can, but class got him home. He will be let know that he is carrying the weight at a likely good speed, but it’s hard to tap the way he goes.

15 Make my Hennessy (bet now: $ 13. 00) is doing very well for Saab Hasan at the moment, with recent efforts in the valley. Surprised many with a dominant win there two back, but proved that it was no coincidence with a closing fourth place behind a future horse in the Saturday class in Loveplanet. Goes on her home route, in the weights and will be strong late on.
