Last season was all about consolidation in the top flight as the midlands side adapted to life back with the big boys.
The club spent around £143million last summer as the club looked to retain their spot in the league – something which they managed to do in the final moments of the season.
Despite spending such sums the club knew that they had to kick on this year if they’re to avoid a similar struggle this time around.
They include Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez and most recently, Bertrand Traore who has arrived from Lyon.
But while those deals have undoubtedly taken Smith’s squad to the next level, there’s a feeling that the club aren’t yet finished in the transfer market.
The club are looking at potential options to bolster their attacking line and it seems that they may have identified a key target.
Reports from the Express and Star have claimed that Villa retain an interest in Odsonne Edouard.
The Celtic striker is one of the most lethal attackers in Europe at the moment after scoring 24 goals for the Bhoys last term.
Clubs such as Leeds United, Arsenal and Leicester City have all been linked with a move for the player, however no deal has been agreed.
Described by Neil Lennon as ‘special’, Edouard has been unstoppable so far this term after scoring five goals in six appearances going into this weekend.
That has undoubtedly impressed scouts from Villa who have been monitoring him with the view to a potential offer.
Whether they decide to formalise their interest remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a top deal if they could get something agreed.
Odsonne Edouard is one of the top strikers in Britain at the moment and so it’s no surprise that so many clubs have been linked with a move.
For Dean Smith’s side this would be a major coup if they could get it done.
Edouard has been linked with some of the biggest clubs on the continent this summer and that just shows how highly he is regarded.
A natural goalscorer, if Villa could get this deal agreed then it would be huge for them.
In my opinion, with this signing the midlands side can forget about the prospect of being relegated, as instead I think they’d be pushing for a top half finish.
