The Atlanta Dream players made a final push Monday to get Georgia residents to vote in Tuesday’s runoff election that will determine which political party is in control of the United States Senate – a race involving the team co-owner and current sen. Kelly Loeffler.

« There are moments that make or break us. There are moments that challenge us. And there are moments that make history, ”said Dream Player in a new video More Than A Vote shared on social media. “And this moment chose us. It wasn’t our choice, but we answered. We answered with our voice, we answered with our hearts, we answered with our actions and our strength . . . We already made history and this runoff is an opportunity to do it again. ”

Loeffler was appointed to her Senate seat in December 2019. She will run in the runoff election against Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock, who received seven percent more votes than in the November election.

The Dream has been criticizing Loeffler for months, starting when she wrote an open letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert criticizing the league’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The players pushed back hard, a jaw-dropping move considering Loeffler owns the team. They even began to openly promote Warnock and wore « Vote Warnock » shirts with other WNBA players in the bubble earlier this season. At one point, the WNBA players’ association even asked Engelbert to remove Loeffler as the owner of the team.

Tuesday’s race, along with the state’s other Senate race between Republican David Perdue and Democrat John Ossoff, will determine whether Republicans or Democrats control the Senate when President-elect Joe Biden takes office. Of course, the races received tremendous attention and record-breaking donations.

The dream has already made it clear where they stand in the races. Now you are ready to finally see how this change is implemented.

« The past year has shown us a lot, » they said in the video. « It showed us who we are as a people. But above all, it showed us our strength, our resilience and our strength. We’re just getting started.

« When we’re all. By voting here in Georgia on January 1st, we’re showing them that we did this and that we are a force to be reckoned with. « . We can create the change we want to see. The future is female. ”

MIAMI – Kelly Olynyk became the newest option on Miami’s starting line-up. He made a case to stay here. Olynyk made five 3-points on his way to 19, Bam Adebayo led all scorers by 20 in the 9v10 shootout, and the heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-90 on Monday night. Miami has played six games, taking turns losing and then winning all six, using a different starting five each time. « I think the grid is overrated in many ways, » said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. “The most important thing is that we improve the consistency with the way we play. « Jimmy Butler scored 18 points for Miami, who turned a four-point game into an outlier with a 20-0 run in the third quarter. Olynyk had 11 points in that push, including three 3-point points, and the heat extended the lead to 35 – her biggest such pillow of the young season. « It’s a different process and a different game when you start, » said Olynyk. “You can somehow let the game come to you. . . . Even so, you have to play your part, whatever it is. « Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 18 points for the Thunder, which started its fourth quarter. Darius Bazley scored 16 and Luguentz Dort 12 for Oklahoma City – completely ruining the chance in that five-minute stretch of the third quarter. « We want to be a team that plays 48 minutes, » said Thunder coach Mark Daignault. The Thunder were only 13 out of 48 out of 3-point range. « The way our offense is set up is something the boys will see openly, » said Bazley. “A lot of the teams we’re playing against are wrapped in a shell . . . Guys are set to look good, especially when you’re playing on the ball. « The heat shot 57%; the thunder shot 37%. Duncan Robinson scored 12 points for the Heat, all out of the 3-point range. Adebayo became the fourth player to play several games in Heat history, 9-10 or better. He switched to Hassan Whiteside (five times), Alonzo Mourning (four times) and Udonis Haslem (three times). . Adebayo left on Jan.. January also 9 for 10. 5, 2020 against Portland. TIPP-INSThunder: Rookie Aleksej Pokusevski (concussion protocol) missed the game. . . . Oklahoma City lost 63-49 halfway through the break, the biggest deficit of the season. . . . The Thunder went 0-10 during the 20-0 run in Miami, seven of those mistakes out of 3-point range. Heat: Butler missed all six of his shots in Dallas on Friday, so the heat gave him a break on Monday’s first possession of the game. . . . The Heat debuted their newest « vice » dish and uniform. . . . Miami has played six games; it has led by at least 20 in two and followed by at least 20 in two others. REF HURTCrew boss Kane Fitzgerald walked 3:50 in the first quarter with an injury to his left leg, possibly his Achilles tendon. That left two officials to end the game, referee Aaron Smith and referee Brandon Schwab – an official without a baton. RARE WINMiami has taken a home win against the Thunder for the first time since December. 3, 2015. The Thunder didn’t come to Miami in 2017 or 2020. The quirk of 2017 was just based on the way the schedules fell, and last season’s home game for the heat was played at Walt Disney World in the bubble. UP NEXTThunder: Visit New Orleans on Wednesday, the third game in a five-game trip. EDMONTON – One image was the driving force of goalkeeper Devon Levi as he and the other Canadian players waited in their hotel rooms to be quarantined and played for gold at the Junior Ice Hockey World Championship. Now the picture becomes sharp. After beating Russia 5-0 in the semi-finals on Monday, Canada want to defend their title on Tuesday. « The image of (playing for gold) has probably been our driving force since we got here, » Levi said on a video call after the win on Monday. « We have invested a lot. … It is a great feeling that we are here and that we are here. But the work is not done yet. « The turnaround between Canada and Russia on Monday was a rematch of last year’s gold medal game in which Canadians fought back from a deficit to a dramatic 4-3 win. The tension was less this year, however, as Canada dominated the Russians from the start. Alex Newhook returned from injury and brought the host country into play in just 59 seconds. There have been concerns that the Colorado Avalanche prospect from Corner Brook, N. . L.. . , would not return to the tournament after an upper body injury in Canada’s last group game against Finland on New Year’s Eve. He missed Saturday’s quarter-final against the Czech Republic but looked healthy on Monday as he scored his third goal of the tournament on his first shift. Newhook’s shot hit the back bar of the Russian net and jumped out before anyone registered the goal. The game continued until the goal horn sounded and the officials checked the video when Newhook’s teammates congratulated him on the bench. « I had no Idea. I thought it was straight crossbar and out, « Newhook said. « But seeing the video afterwards was definitely a good feeling. « Connor McMichael, Cole Perfetti and Braden Schneider added goals for the defending champions and Dylan Cozens sealed the result with a blank Nice. The 19-year-old from Whitehorse, Yukon, also had two assists in the game. With 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) he leads the tournament in the ranking. Russian goalkeeper Yaroslav Askarov at times tried to hold on to his stick and stopped 30 of 34 shots. Levi had 28 saves to score his third shutout of the tournament, setting a record set by Canadian Justin Pogge in 2006. But the young netminder is not focused on putting his name in the record books. « It’s something you might want to see after the tournament, but the work isn’t done, » said Levi. A shot passed Levi on Monday. Russia came into the game less than three minutes ahead in the second half, only to fail to score their goal. Canadian defender Justin Barron embroiled in a Russian power game with Levi, preventing the goalkeeper from getting over the net in time to stop a Mikhail Abramov shot. The Russians celebrated, but Canada quickly challenged the demand for an offside entry. After verification, the officers agreed and waved off the target. The goal on that occasion could have changed the game, said Russia coach Igor Larionov. « You can not do anything. That’s the rule, « he said. The Russians just didn’t have enough energy and power to create the strange onslaught they needed to overthrow the Canadians, Larionov said. “Team Canada played a good, solid game. They were solid defensively and very efficient offensively, « he said. Canada was supposed to meet their opponent for the gold medal game later on Monday. The United States faced Finland in the other semi-final game. There will be pressure no matter who plays the team, said Canadian coach Andre Tourigny. « There is a lot of emotion in this tournament and you want to be in the last game, » he said. « You want to be part of something special and this final game is going to be special. « Since Tourigny came together for the selection camp in mid-November, he has been telling his players that they need to be prepared for adversity. That mindset helped them prepare for the challenge of fighting for gold, he said. « The way the leaders and the player deal with adversity every time there is adversity made all the difference to me, » said Tourigny. « It’s a very tough tournament, there is still a lot of hockey to play here. … Tomorrow is going to be a damn good game. « This report from The Canadian Press was first published in January. 4, 2020. PHILADELPHIA – Joel Embiid wore a sweatshirt that read « The Process » on the front. His nickname is a nod to the path the ’76 took from an abandoned franchise to one with the best-ever track record in the NBA. And maybe the best player too. Embiid had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Tobias Harris scored 22 points and Philadelphia defeated the Charlotte Hornets 118-101 on Monday night for their fourth straight win. « The main thing we have is Joel, » said coach Doc Rivers. “Joel sets the table for us. The Sixers swept away the two-game set featured this season because of the pandemic, beating the Hornets for the 13th time. Times in a row. Philadelphia hasn’t lost to Charlotte since November. 2, 2016. Embiid was the main reason the Sixers started 6-1 in Rivers’ first season. Perhaps motivated by the birth of his son who was revived under a new coaching staff or both, the 26-year-old has apparently used his talent and become a labor-intensive force on both sides of the ball. Gone are the days when Embiid’s minutes were limited due to injury – Sixers fans still shy away from “load management” – and he only had to sit out one back-to-back set game to rest. Embiid entered on Monday night averaging 33. 4 minutes (and 25. 0 points), mostly on the Sixers. « He can handle it, » said Rivers. « I think he played almost 37 the other day, I didn’t like that, but that will happen. You go through the year and it balances out that 34, 33. I don’t have a minute barometer, I just know where to keep it. Embiid added a personal chef, nutritionist, physical therapist, and massage therapist, and earned $ 29. He can afford the staff 5 million this season – to turn these great lightning bolts into a sustainable MVP campaign. « Everything I’ve done worked, » said Embiid. « I am glad to have the support that I have provided. I have to keep doing it. We have to keep doing it. ‘Do you want rim protection? Embiid can do it. Gordon Hayward was learning on a ride late on the third when he saw Embiid’s arm outstretched and threw a savage shot high over the rectangle. Embiid grabbed one of his 10 defense boards. In the third round, Embiid met a double team on the wing. He didn’t force himself to do a piece that wasn’t there – he kicked it to Seth Curry for a wide open 3 and a 61-45 lead. « Every time they come from any angle, we put guys in places where Joel can see them and make simple decisions, » said Rivers. “All great players will be trapped. I have this attitude, if you catch us we will score. You can feel the guys believe it. Embiid even hit a small fadeaway in the third when the Sixers turned this into a router and he rested in just 25 minutes. Ben Simmons was stable at 12 points and 10 rebounds and Danny Green hit three 3s for 13 points. Hayward had 18 points and struggling Devonte Graham added 15 for the Hornets, who also lost 127-112 at Philly on Saturday. « We couldn’t score a goal tonight, » said Hornets coach James Borrego. « We couldn’t find the bucket and it has passed into our interim defense. Until we have figured out the offense and find people who can score and put the ball in the hole, we have to play defense consistently. « TIP-INSHornets: C Cody Zeller has still not been cleared for the use of his left hand to shoot exercises after breaking his ring finger at the season opener. The hornets hope that Zeller can return in early February. 76ers: Harris was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week averaging 23. 3 points, 9. 7 rebounds and 4. 0 helps in three games. . . .
