World News – AU – Australian cricket stars celebrate the emotional New Year’s Eve with their partners

. .

Steve Smith was finally reunited with his wife after four months of separation, while David Warner opted for a « different » night.

Australia’s test cricketers have seen contrasting New Years Eve celebrations – some reunited with their families while others stayed apart.

The COVID protocols in force for this summer’s games against India have placed a greater burden on those wearing the baggy green than ever before.

Some players have been away from their partners for four months and this has increased the emotions during the holiday season.

Star batsman Steve Smith hadn’t seen his wife Dani since leaving for England in August to compete in the Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates before being quarantined in Australia ahead of the summer home.

The recent COVID outbreak in Sydney prevented them from spending Christmas Day together, but they were finally reunited in time to welcome 2021.

Middle-class batsman Travis Head was also able to spend the evening with his girlfriend Jess Davies.

Elsewhere, David Warner opted for a night out with wife Candice and her kids as he prepares to re-enter the isolation bubble of cricket before returning to the team on the Sydney Test.

« Another New Year for us, all three kids are sleeping, » Warner wrote on Instagram. “From our family to yours, we wish you a happier 2021. This year has had its challenges for everyone, many lows more than highs, that’s for sure, but we know we will never give up. Keep looking ahead, get on your way and do better in 2021 !! «

Young all-rounder Cameron Green was fortunate to have girlfriend Emily Redwood on the tour company ahead of his Adelaide debut, but after spending Christmas together in Melbourne, the two now said goodbye before the second half of the series.

Squad member Moises Henriques also makes it difficult. He wasn’t with his wife Krista or young son Archie for Christmas and wrote about how he missed both of them overnight.

The series ends in Brisbane in mid-January before a month-long break before the T20 series against New Zealand.
