Australian golden boy Olympic swimmer from Seoul, Duncan Armstrong recovering in Brisbane Hospital tonight after reports emerged that he had undergone emergency heart surgery.
The Sydney Daily Telegraph reported that « Armstrong’s close circle, which felt relieved, was told that the 1988 Olympic champion in the 200-meter freestyle » was « doing well » but that no visitor was allowed in until doctors deemed it safe to take him from Intensive care unit.
Olympic book chief and swimmer for the newspaper Julian Linden received news that Armstrong had suffered a suspected heart attack and was in hospital.
« It is understood that Armstrong suffered a cardiac arrest without warning in Brisbane on Tuesday and was rushed directly to the hospital where surgeons operated on him on the spot.. His family and close friends were only notified because the news came as a huge surprise to everyone who knows him as he keeps himself healthy and still active in the swimming community.
