World News – AU – Boston, Holy Cross wears masks for Tuesday’s game

Tuesday’s game between the Terriers of Boston University and the Crusaders of the Holy Cross will look different from any competition previously played during the coronavirus pandemic.

As Jeff Borzello reported for ESPN, players from Boston and Holy Cross will wear masks during Tuesday’s matchup, under a Boston University mandate that requires student-athletes to wear face-covers during games on the Boston campus. This is believed to be the first time members from competing teams have been wearing masks on the field.

Only Boston players wore masks during Monday’s clash between the two schools held on the Holy Cross campus.

During the fall, an order from Pennsylvania nearly resulted in Virginia Tech Hokies, Pittsburgh Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Philadelphia Eagles soccer players wearing masks during games. She and other programs in the state later learned they were exempt from the order.

In early November, the NFL and NFL Players Association notified players and other staff that they must wear masks when in locker rooms or when interacting with each other before and after games. The home teams must provide surgical disposable masks for both clubs on the sidelines on match days.

« Wearing a mask or an approved face cover could mean the difference between being labeled ‘high risk’ or not, » said a memo sent to NFL players at the time.
