World News – AU – Brave Tiger entered grand final with ripped calf

Bachar Houli of Richmond injured his calf in the opening minutes of the grand final but fought bravely after a call from coach Damien Hardwick

Houli said he felt his calf burst just minutes after teammate Nick Vlastuin was knocked out in the first trimester and believed his night was ‘over’

But given that the Tigers were already a down man as Vlastuin was ruled out of a comeback, Houli says it was a special message from Hardwick that saw him go through the pain

« I actually did my calf about two minutes after Nick Vlastuin was knocked out, » he said on Triple M

« I thought I was done, but the big man Dimma said: » I need you, I need you to fight «

The defender, who entered the Queensland Tigers hub late after staying in Melbourne for the birth of his child, said he just wanted to give his all

« (My calf) was a little tight (before the game) but I didn’t think much about it because I had been in the same situation twice in the last six weeks probably, » he said. -he declares

« I sprinted on the floor and it jumped I thought it was done I just knew there was no next week and wanted to give it my all »

It has been a difficult year 2020 for Houli who, after staying in Melbourne, found out his mother had contracted COVID-19 and was in intensive care

It took his father’s blessing for Houli and his family to head north to join the Tigers in Queensland

« I am so proud of the number of sacrifices our family have made – all the players and their families have just been amazing, » he said.
